“After attaining a high level of mastery as an improvising jazz pianist, Michael Levy felt that the 88 keys were no longer sufficient to express his musical ideas. Coupled with the fact that he was geographically separated from his piano he embarked upon creating music using an iOS platform. As Michael became more familiar with the platform a flood of infinite possibilities opened up. A fire was ignited within as he proceeded to become prolific using this platform.
The music he improvises moves freely between expansive heavenly sounds and earthly rhythms with instrumentation reminiscent of various world cultures... and much in between. The music is multilayered and includes an astounding variety of instrumental sounds as it organically genre jumps.”

I am indebted to Connie Crothers for teaching me how to improvise in such a way that the musical material for an orchestrated work is contained in the elements of a pure piano improvisation. I also hope these forays into iOS music production will encourage my jazz colleagues to experiment in the novel, and incredibly affordable, iOS production mode.
