Tenor saxophonist Bob Field began playing clarinet at age 11 and was inspired to take up the saxophone at 15 after hearing Lester Young on an all-night jazz radio station ("Lester's sound spoke directly to my heart," Bob recalls). He began playing professional jazz and blues gigs in high school, where he was also a member of the student big band. In college he majored in both music and psychology, and in the late '70s held a seat in Sam Rivers' big band. He has performed for live radio broadcasts, touring theatrical productions, and in clubs and concerts in Russia and New York. He took up piano in 1994 and is currently immersed in improvisation studies on both piano and sax. He lives in New York City.

Bob Field appears on Waves of Blue Intensities with pianist and vocalist Carol Liebowitz.
