BOEL DIRKE, JAZZ PIANIST & SINGER

Born in Gothenburg, Sweden September 30, 1962. Got her music education at the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm 1982-1986. Worked as freelance musician and composer with various theatre groups in Sweden until 1990 when she went to New York City to study jazz improvisation with Liz Gorrill. The studies continued 'till 1994 when Dirke returned to Stockholm. In Sweden she works with a trio called Other Street Music which includes Dirke, piano and voice, Andy Fite, guitar and voice, and bassist Ulf Åkerhielm.

She has performed in the US as well as in Scandinavia in concerts, jazz clubs, festivals and in TV broadcasts. In 1994 she wrote music to a chamber opera based on a poetry collection by the well known Swedish poet Bodil Malmsten, called "Damen, det brinner!". Continues to work both as a teacher and performing artist in various constellations, mostly in Sweden. Musical influences: Lennie Tristano, Liz Gorrill, Warne Marsh, Louis Armstrong, Lester Young among others.

Recordings: Debut CD "Sweet Fulfillment" (NA 1019 CD) recorded in 1992 with guitarist Andy Fite and tenor saxophonist Charley Krachy. "From the Inside Out" (NA 1023 CD) recorded 1994 with singer Bob Casanova, both on New Artists Records.

Lives in Stockholm with her husband,Andy Fite, son Niklas and daughter Alice, born 1995 and 1997 respectively.
